all next month I will be posting in the Not back to school blog hop
These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Getting ready for a new school year
I like to plan as much for the new school year over the summer as I can, so I can just open and go - which is what I love about My Father's World. Yesterday we went to the beach and I brought along my teachers manual to make a school supply list and get familiar with things. I am going to take file folders for each country and week and fill them ahead of time with things needed for that week and any notes I have like supplies I will need to get that week or ideas from the message boards. I love curriculum and so have had fun collecting things for the upcomming school year and making wish lists. I have to be careful though because whatever I buy I feel like we really need to use it and somedays we just can't fit it all in. After last year I figured we would just complete those things over the summer, but the only thing we have really stuck to is reading and our art Artistic Pursuits, Book One: An Introduction to the Visual Arts. I have also been working like mad to get our classroom ready, it kinda became a dumping ground over the last couple of months. I will post pictures when it's all set up for our year of travel(Exploring Countries & Cultures).

our latest Art assignment
Her assignment was to do a portrait of someone using water color crayons. She chose Mom as her subject, what do you think? We are really enjoying our art curriculum Artistic Pursuits.

Thanks to Nana
The days of matching P.J.s are not over yet. Nana found the girls these yesterday and they love them.
hair cut #2
O.K. I really couldn't stand the first hair cut, there were still stray hairs in her face and I didn't think it would be much better than what she had. Well I may have gone a little too short, but I don't think she will get it in her food as often. Tell me what you think.

Art Class - Summer School
Well this past school year we kinda dumped our art program "I can do all things" early on and just did a lot of sketching. Molly just really didn't like the style or something. I wanted to do something over the summer to kinda make up for it. My friend Shana http://www.shanascup.blogspot.com/ recommended another program "Artistic Pursuits" http://www.artisticpursuits.com/. I picked it up on http://homeschoolclassifieds.com for 25.00. We are only a few lessons in but we are loving it! Here is Molly's latest artwork. We were studying how artist use photographs to create art. So we got out the national geographic to find something that interested Molly. She first drew the picture with pencil then colored in with watercolor crayons and then painted with water.

No more hair in her face!
I really didn't want to do it, I hate bangs, but I couldn't take it any longer. As you can see from her picture on the side or if you know #2, her hair is always scraggly and in her face. I can put her hair in cute ponies or pull it back with a barrette but after a short time it is sliding out and in her face. So here is her new look.
the 5 love languages of children
O.K. I finished this book last night, I was already somewhat aware of the different love languages but some things I took away...... I knew DD #1's love language was gifts but I found out her secondary love language was quality time. I think for DD #2 it could change but for now is definitely touch as she has always been clingy and loves to touch us ALL THE TIME. I also noted that someone usually shows love the way they want to be loved and it dawned on me how important the gifts #1 gives me are love and the way I respond to them is very important to her - Gifts is not my love language so I sometimes tend to be a little indifferent to them.
I am going to check out the original 5 love languages from the library next to skim over. You can take the love languages quiz for adults at http://www.5lovelanguages.com/assessments/30-second-quizzes/love/ it's just a short generic one, the book has a longer one and will give you your secondary love language as well. I think mine is words of affirmation and secondary acts of service(but to me this is not necessarily cleaning, it's run and errand for me, carry my groceries in, take things out to the van, open a door, watch the kids etc;)
So if you have read 5 love languages or thought about this before leave me a comment with your thoughts or even what your love language is.

I'm a bad blogger
Yes, I am a bad blogger, I started the school year off strong last fall keeping up weekly and then 3 months of nothing! Sorry, but I had technical difficulties coupled with procrastination which then lead to "I'm overwhelmed". Well my new approach to blogging will be if I don't cover everything oh well, I will just pick up with what's current and blog about whatever is on my mind, when I have the desire and time to blog - so hopefully this will keep me jotting stuff down for others to read or maybe just a record for myself who knows???
Sunday School today really stuck with me today as something I want to apply and someday teach my children ( why is it as a parent every time we hear something we wish we had already known we think - my kids need to hear this, as if maybe we can spare them from every making any mistake we have ever made. I can hope can't I.) The jist of it was this; anytime we have a decision to make or have a situation we are in ask this - Is it wise for me? Is it wise in light of my past? Is it wise for me in light of my current situation? Is it wise for me based on where I want to be in the future? So in light of where I want to be - 30lbs lighter, is it wise for me to have eaten that candy bar at 10pm, no! See this stuff could work if I had asked myself this question before I had done it. Proverbs 28:26 He who trust in his own heart is a fool, but he who walks wisely will be delivered.
Church was great too, as we celebrated our Pastor's 50th birthday and got to hear about the glory of God throughout his life. I am so thankful for the body of believers God has placed us in and for a pastor who gives all the glory to God
